After an impressive 2022 NFL season when it looked like the Jacksonville Jaguars had turned things around with star quarterback Trevor Lawrence leading the way, the franchise took two steps back last season rather than taking another leap forward, which raised concerns about the future.

Despite Lawrence being one of the more talented quarterbacks in the league and recently signing a huge contract extension, the Jaguars are a team many are uncertain about heading into the 2024 NFL season, especially after losing wide receiver Calvin Ridley in free agency.

The Jaguars were able to replace Ridley with former Buffalo Bills wideout Gabe Davis, but there’s no telling whether he’ll be able to fill those shoes or exceed expectations in his first season in Jacksonville.

Even though there’s been a lot of uncertainty about how good the Jaguars can be, Lawrence is happy with the direction his team is headed.

“I like our team,” Lawrence told SiriusXM NFL Radio. “I really like where we’re at.”

One thing that really hurt the Jaguars’ chances of competing last year was being in the AFC South with the upstart Houston Texans, who hit a home run with rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud and went on to win the division as well as pull off an upset of the Cleveland Browns in the NFL playoffs.

If the Jaguars can’t compete with the new-look Texans, Jacksonville will have a tough time trying to bounce back, as they will be direct competitors for many years.
