Trey Lance Sends A Clear Message Ahead Of Season

Not so long ago, NFL scouts, analysts, and even fans were raving about Trey Lance and his future in the league.

Fast forward to today, and he might not even be QB2.

Lance’s career got off to quite a rocky start with the San Francisco 49ers, and with Brock Purdy taking the reins of the team, John Lynch eventually decided to part ways with the young player he gave up a lot to get.

Jerry Jones got him to be one of the Dallas Cowboys’ backups and perhaps put some pressure on Dak Prescott, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Now, he’s entering the offseason trying to beat Cooper Rush for the QB2 spot, and it seems like he’s ready to compete.

Recently, the former first-round pick claimed to be in the best shape of his career mentally, spiritually, and physically (via Around the NFL):

“I think the biggest thing is I’ve learned a lot about myself and who I am on and off the field,” Lance said. “This offseason, I’ve been at my best mentally, physically, spiritually knowing who I am, where I am and being able to be present.”

Lance is still very young, so it might not be wise to count him out.

Then again, given his history of injuries and how little he’s been able to play since his days in high school, some are starting to believe that it might never happen for him.

The Cowboys have a tough situation on their hands with Prescott right now, as they refused to sign him to a contract extension, and he’ll now play in the final year of his contract.

The chances of Lance taking over and Prescott walking away are slim and it’ll be interesting to see if he’s able to prove the doubters wrong in Arlington.
