Over the weekend, the San Francisco 49ers finally parted ways with former first-round draft pick Trey Lance after more than a year of speculation about his future with the storied NFL franchise.
Although there were some rumors floating around about the 49ers potentially talking to the Minnesota Vikings, which is Lance’s hometown team, the Dallas Cowboys came out of nowhere and acquired the quarterback for a fourth-round draft pick.
This was a totally unexpected move by the Cowboys, with the team having a longtime starter in Dak Prescott, who has reportedly been talking to the team about a lucrative long-term contract extension, which could get done sooner rather than later and reset the quarterback market.
Despite the Cowboys seemingly still all-in on Prescott, Dallas made the deal for Lance anyway, which the young quarterback claims put a smile on his face, via B/R Gridiron.

Lance gets a chance at a fresh start with America’s Team, but it remains to be seen what Jerry Jones and company have planned for the 23-year-old.
If the Cowboys are intent on making Prescott the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL, then it seems a bit perplexing that they’d bring in a quarterback with as much potential as Lance.
However, a lot of the teams that were rumored to be in the running for Lance’s services all had longtime starters under center, meaning he wasn’t going to a place where he could contend for the starting job right away.
