The Miami Dolphins and Tua Tagovailoa are reaching a key point in their relationship.
The Alabama product is about to enter the fifth and final year of his rookie contract, and there has been plenty of talk about a potential extension.
An extension clearly looms large for both parties, and the fact that they haven’t reached a deal yet has raised some speculation around the league.
Nonetheless, it seems like it’s just a matter of time before they get a deal done.
During an appearance at his camp in Hawaii, Tua confirmed that his agent has been in touch with the Dolphins and talks about an extension are ongoing and positive right now (via KHON and ProFootballTalk):
“They’ve been good. Right now, I’m letting my agent handle that,” Tagovailoa said, via KHON. “I’m focused on my family, I’m focused on continuing to better myself, better my craft and we’ll talk more about that when that time comes. For now, exciting times ahead, that’s for sure.”

Tua is coming off the best season of his career.
He struggled in the season finale in Kansas City’s blistering cold, and that’s going to continue to be a concern.
Nonetheless, Mike McDaniel’s offense seems to be tailor-made for him, and the Miami Dolphins have gotten better year after year with him at the helm.
Some will continue to have doubts about him, his arm strength, and his durability.
Then again, the writing is on the wall for him to continue his career in South Beach, and his numbers are far from bad.
Whether he’s going to get the same kind of money Joe Burrow got remains to be seen, but in today’s quarterback market, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him become one of the highest-paid players this game has ever seen.
