Kody Funderburk made his MLB debut with the Minnesota Twins on Monday in a pivotal divisional game against the Cleveland Guardians.

The 26-year-old pitcher didn’t disappoint, with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts in the 10-6 victory over Cleveland.

Both innings were perfect, and were good and timely enough for Funderburk to get the win.

There is an interesting story about what he was doing when he got the Twins’ call, told by team insider Do-Hyoung Park.

“Kody Funderburk was on his way to the State Fair to enjoy the Triple-A off-day around 3 p.m. when he got the call. Had to divert his route to Target Field. A few hours later, he was on the mound for his big league debut,” he tweeted.

As you can see, it all happened so fast!

He went from enjoying a day off at the fair to quickly changing course and reporting to the Twins.

It’s a dream come true for every baseball player, so we are assuming that he didn’t have any issues with the sudden change of plans.

Funderburk pitched in Double-A and Triple-A this year.

In the first level, he left a 1.00 ERA in nine innings of work, with a whopping 14 strikeouts.

In Triple-A, he was sporting a 2.36 ERA when he was called up, in 61 frames.

He had struck out 89 hitters in Triple-A Saint Paul.

He could be a sneaky good contributor to the Twins in the stretch run and potentially in the postseason too, as the team tries to fend off potential advances from the Guardians.
