NBA players didn’t take Noah Lyles’ comments lightly.
The track and field star may have hurt their egos when he asked why NBA players call themselves world champions even if they’re not playing against international teams.
NBA stars argue that the league is the best in the world; thus, whoever wins it should be considered a world champion.
That includes Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton, who jokingly said that the players would let the comments slide because they weren’t the most intelligent.

Nonetheless, Lyles never intended to take a shot at NBA players.
No one self-proclaims as a world champion just because he’s the best in the world.
Allen Iverson won an MVP, meaning he was the best player in the best league, but that doesn’t mean he was a world champion.
It is an undeniable fact that the NBA is highly superior to every other competition on Earth, yet Team USA has lost in the past.
Also, no one was putting the players’ talents in doubt; he just said that NBA teams only play NBA teams.
NBA literally stands for National Basketball Association, and even though the best players from all over the world take their talents there, it’s still a national competition by definition.
