Despite all the James Harden drama in the offseason, the Philadelphia 76ers have looked like one of the best teams in the league during the 2023-24 NBA season as they sit at 7-1 and first in the Eastern Conference.

The 76ers dealt away Harden, and they’ve flourished since as they’ve won several games convincingly.

However, Philadelphia looked like they were in for a rough night as they struggled early on against the Detroit Pistons.

The 76ers fell behind by double digits in the first quarter and went into the half trailing by eight points.

Philadelphia eventually turned things around in the second half behind strong performances from Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey who carried the team offensively and led them to a comeback win.

Maxey was asked what changed for him and the 76ers and he kept his answer simple via NBC.

“We weathered the storm,” Maxey said.

The Pistons have been a feisty young squad to deal with so far this season and were the aggressors out of the gate.

However, to Maxey’s point, he and his teammates stuck with things and hung around just enough to eventually take over.

Without Harden, Maxey’s assumed much more offensive responsibility and he’s answered the call as he’s been a much more efficient shooter and a better decision-maker with the basketball in his hands.

His rise to stardom is the biggest development for the 76ers who are hoping to finally make it past the second round of the playoffs.

It’s still early in the season, but Philadelphia is looking like a real championship contender.
