After a disastrous stint with the Los Angeles Lakers, superstar guard Russell Westbrook was traded to the Utah Jazz in a three-team deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Ultimately, the Jazz never intended for Westbrook to play a single game for Utah, as they began buyout talks and were eventually able to make him a free agent and able to sign with another team.
Ironically enough, Westbrook ended up staying put the entire time, with the Los Angeles Clippers bringing him in to join fellow superstars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
This was an interesting move by the Clippers and a bit risky, considering many people thought Westbrook wasn’t the same player and could do more harm than good.
Fortunately for the Clippers, signing Westbrook turned out to be a brilliant move, as he fit in and helped the team in the second half of the season and during the NBA playoffs.
Apparently, Westbrook, who recently re-signed with the Clippers, left quite an impression on head coach Tyronn Lue who dubbed the veteran guard as the leader of the team, as Gilbert Arenas claims on Gil’s Arena.
With Westbrook playing for a different team every year, it seems he had been labeled a problem in the locker room and a liability on the basketball floor.
However, he’s seemingly changed the narrative for the time being while resurrecting his career with the Clippers and earning a leadership role on a team that already has two legitimate superstars.
It’ll be interesting to see if Westbrook can continue to make an impact in Los Angeles while the Clippers try to win that elusive NBA championship.
