There appears to be a new trend within the athletic community.
For a long time, young athletes played different sports all year round, staying busy with two, three, or four different sports.
This was said to help development in other sports, making them a more well-rounded athlete.
However, young people now seem to be focusing on one sport and playing it all year to get as good as possible at that particular sport.
This isn’t necessarily bad, but it can limit that player’s options for growth and playing a sport at a higher level, whether it’s college or the pros.
For instance, athletes like Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson were elite at multiple sports, going professional in both of them.
Udonis Haslem was a great NBA player in the league, but he also grew up playing football, as he recently told Maxx Crosby on the OGs Show.
“I could catch a fade and a slant,” Haslem said, “I played tight end in high school.”

Haslem indicated that he might not have been good at much when he played football, but he certainly knew how to catch the ball when it came his way.
He didn’t go on to play the sport when he was in college, but some of the skills he learned playing football might have applied to his basketball career.
It will be interesting to see if the newest generation of one-sport athletes will be better or worse at their craft in the long run.
