News travels fast in professional sports these days, with Twitter and Instagram having the ability to spread breaking news like wildfire on their platforms.
These two platforms have gotten so big and so easy to use that they’ve become the No. 1 source for breaking news in the NBA.
Without a doubt, Twitter is the fastest form of news-breaking in the world today and is used daily by NBA fans, media, and players to get all the information happening in real-time.
The social media platform is so fast that the news can get out there about a player before the player has even been notified, like when it comes to trades and players being released.
On Wednesday, Taurean Prince learned his fate with the Minnesota Timberwolves while scrolling through Twitter thanks to arguably one of the best news sources in the league, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Prince felt compelled to quote tweet Wojnarowski’s breaking news that informed the 29-year-old that the team wouldn’t guarantee his contract for next season, making him a free agent.

Although Prince seems to have a sense of humor about the situation, firing back with a funny response, this kind of thing happens all the time in professional sports, with players in the NBA, NFL, and MLB finding out their fate on social media before getting a phone call.
As for Prince, he’s likely not all that devastated as he will have the chance to secure his long-term future in the league this summer in free agency and is bound to get a few phone calls from interested teams.
