At 7’6″, rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs is easily classed as a center, but in today’s NBA, especially with his versatile game, it’s not shocking that he’d think that he has no limitations to what he can do on the basketball floor.
As the game becomes more perimeter-oriented, with an emphasis on three-point shooting, the league has become more positionless than ever, which makes Wembanyama’s situation in San Antonio that much more interesting moving forward.
Obviously, Gregg Popovich and company don’t have to stress too much about what to class Wembanyama in terms of position, as it really doesn’t matter once he gets on the floor, but it could become a topic of discussion this season.
Wembanyama had some interesting things to say when asked about playing different positions in the NBA via NBA Retweet.
Victor Wembanyama on playing different positions:
“There really are no limitations. On a lot of set plays, on a lot of plays, it really depends on where you are. I can be the point guard just as I can be the wing. It doesn’t matter.” pic.twitter.com/ATft5fgd2D

Wembanyama has already done some amazing things on the basketball floor during the preseason for the Spurs, especially when he went head-to-head with fellow seven-footer Chet Holmgren of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Spurs will be must-see TV for basketball fans during the 2023-24 NBA season, as everyone will want to see if this 19-year-old kid can live up to the incredibly high expectations and if he can lead San Antonio back to basketball glory.
Not since the Tim Duncan era were the Spurs last relevant, but that should change instantly this season, as Wembanyama should be pure entertainment on the basketball floor as long as he can stay healthy and available for Popovich.
