The Memphis Grizzlies were one of the worst teams in the NBA during Ja Morant’s 25-game suspension to start the 2023-24 season.
Although the Grizzlies aren’t much better in terms of their record this season, the organization is still playing like a different team since the return of their superstar guard Ja Morant.
Speaking of the Grizzlies, the team recently matched up against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.
After the game, Wembanyama shared his honest thoughts on facing Ja Morant for the first time in his NBA career via Legion Hoops on Twitter.
“A good player. Very, very small, so it’s hard to catch up on him, and very fast. It’s just another great player that I see every night now in the NBA,” Wembanyama said of Morant.
Victor Wembanyama on Ja Morant:
“A good player. Very, very small, so it’s hard to catch up on him, and very fast. It’s just another great player that I see every night now in the NBA. Everyone’s got a franchise player like this who’s causing problems.”

One may think that Wembanyama took a subtle jab at Morant by calling him a small player, but in reality, he appreciated the Grizzlies superstar’s amazing pace to take full advantage of his small size.
Moreover, Wembanyama was thankful for getting the opportunity to play against a player like Ja Morant in the NBA, as he is one of the best franchise players in the league who can cause trouble to opponents on a nightly basis.
As far as Morant and Wembanyama’s battle is concerned, the Grizzlies superstar had the last laugh following the 106-98 win over the Spurs.
Morant recorded 26 points, 5 rebounds, and 10 assists against the Spurs.
On the other hand, Wembanyama impressed many with his 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 assist performance against the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies have improved their record to 11-22, but they remain the 13th seed in the Western Conference this season.
As for the Spurs, they are dead last in the conference with a 5-28 record.
