The San Antonio Spurs had a tough time at Madison Square Garden.

No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama didn’t have a dream debut in the basketball mecca, and his team struggled overall.

However, when asked his thoughts about the tough outing, the French prospect seemed unworried about his team and the future.

According to Jeff Garcia of Spurs Zone, Wembanyama showed confidence in the team’s ability to learn and bounce back from this defeat, as they’re still the youngest team in the league.

young – the youngest team in the league, so we’re learning.” – Victor Wembanyama on loss to Knicks #porvida #nba #gospursgo #sanantonio pic.twitter.com/sagIttl9H8

Young mistakes led to this tough loss.

The Spurs trailed by 17 points after the first quarter and were down as many as 30 points at one point.

They never led.

As for Wembanyama, he couldn’t put on a show in front of NYC fans.

He scored 14 points with nine rebounds, two assists, and just one block on 4 of 14 from the floor, 6 of 6 from the free-throw line, and 0 of 4 from beyond the arc.

Young teams always go through some growing pains, and the hardest part about developing winning habits is finding consistency.

The energy will always be there, but that can also lead to erratic decision-making, hesitation, and an inability to play their way back into games.

Even so, this young Spurs team has shown glimpses of great play from time to time.

They were able to come back from a huge deficit vs. Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns and beat them twice this season already.

Wembanyama will have some good games and some bad games, and the important thing, just like he said, is that he learns from every experience.
