The Los Angeles Lakers unearthed a gem when they signed Austin Reaves following the 2021 NBA Draft.
Reaves had an opportunity to get drafted in the second round, but decided to forego the chance in order to wind up in Los Angeles.
The move was a prudent one as Reaves was able to turn in a solid rookie year that he used to jumpstart what turned out to be a revelation of a sophomore season.
The 25-year-old helped the Lakers all the way to the Western Conference Finals against the Denver Nuggets and he was rewarded in free agency with a four-year, $54-million deal.
Not only that, but Reaves also got invited to play for Team USA in the 2023 FIBA World Cup and he’s run with the opportunity.
Reaves has been one of Team USA’s best players and he recently showed out in their blowout win over Greece via NBA Lakers Report.

The guard shows exactly why he’s been so valuable to the Americans during international play as he walls the opposing offensive player to come up with a steal, ignites a fastbreak, and dishes to Bobby Portis underneath for the easy score.
Although there were stars available who could’ve definitely represented the United States, Reaves has been a perfect addition because of his unselfish game and ability to fit into any lineup.
The Lakers have to be excited about what they’re seeing from Reaves so far in FIBA play and hopefully that translates back stateside when the 2023-24 season tips off in a couple of months.
