A number of new stars have entered the NBA in recent years, and much of the hype has revolved around men such as Zion Williamson, Ja Morant, Anthony Edwards, and now Victor Wembanyama.

Cade Cunningham, the No. 1 pick in the 2021 draft, has seemingly gotten lost in the shuffle, as he has had a disappointing start to his career.

However, at the NBA Summer League, he was attracting attention, as a young fan went up to him to take a selfie with him, via NBA on ESPN.

Cunningham averaged 20.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists a game while shooting 40.0 percent from 3-point range during his lone season of college basketball at Oklahoma State University.

The 6-foot-6, 220-pound young man was even compared a little bit to LeBron James entering the draft due to his varied skill sets and ability to score, hit open teammates, and attack in the open court.

But in his first two seasons in the NBA with the Detroit Pistons, Cunningham has been underwhelming.

He has put up 17.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.6 assists a game, but he has shot just 41.6 percent from the field and 30.9 percent from beyond the arc.

The Pistons have been pitiful during that time, as they finished with a 17-65 record this past season, which was the worst mark in the entire league.

Unfortunately for them, they earned only the fifth pick in this year’s draft, which means Cunningham won’t be joined by Wembanyama or Scoot Henderson this fall.

This coming season will be huge for the Texas native, as he will need to show some type of significant growth in order to avoid being labeled a bust by fans and pundits.
