It’s been quite a while since the Charlotte Hornets were a playoff-caliber team.

They’ve had plenty of talent in their ranks, but they’ve failed to make the most of it.

Now, with Brandon Miller looking like a legitimate building block, the front office has brought in a young mind to nourish him.

The Hornets hired former Boston Celtics assistant coach Charles Lee to be their next coach, and judging by the tape of his first practice, it may have been the right call.

As shown by the Hornets on Twitter, Lee was very energetic.

He tried to get his players to be more committed on the defensive end of the floor, get deflections, and just be more active.

The Hornets have struggled to build and develop a winning culture for years now, and there have been plenty of worrisome reports about the players’ off-court behavior and work ethic.

Lee comes with championship experience, winning two titles as an assistant coach, one with the Milwaukee Bucks, and one more recently in Boston.

The Hornets aren’t playoff-ready by any means, and they need to add more veterans to their roster to help the young players learn the ropes of the game.

LaMelo Ball has struggled with injuries, and some believe it’s just a matter of time before he eventually forces his way to a big market that fits his personality better.

That’s why it should be Lee’s first and foremost priority to build winning habits in the organization to build a sustainable project in North Carolina.
