There are very few free agents still available right now in the NBA with the start of training camp about two-and-a-half months away, but there is one who is looking for a second chance.
In 2017, Harry Giles III, a 6-foot-11, 240-pound big man, was the No. 20 pick in the NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers, but he didn’t amount to much in three pro seasons.
He recently held a private workout in Las Vegas in front of a slew of NBA scouts and executives in the hopes that he will return to the league, via Chris Haynes.

Giles was considered a five-star recruit out of high school, but in his lone season at Duke University, he averaged just 3.9 points and 3.8 rebounds in 11.5 minutes a game.
He was traded to the Sacramento Kings shortly after he was drafted, but he didn’t play at all in the 2017-18 season after undergoing a number of knee surgeries due to multiple injuries in the preceding years
As a member of the Kings during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, he averaged 7.0 points and 3.9 rebounds in 14.3 minutes a game.
Giles then managed just 2.8 points and 3.5 boards in 9.2 minutes a game during the 2020-21 campaign after being sent back to Portland.
He was thought to have potential when he entered the NBA as a shot-blocking, rim-protecting big man who was agile and could rotate well on the defensive end.
Unfortunately, all of his knee injuries may have robbed him of a good deal of his potential, although perhaps he could find a spot on an NBA team as an emergency option.
