The Memphis Grizzlies haven’t gotten off to a good start to the season.
Ja Morant’s 25-game suspension obviously put the team in a tough spot, and their injuries haven’t done much to help their cause.
However, that doesn’t mean their effort is acceptable, at least not according to Marcus Smart.
That’s why the former Boston Celtics star was livid at his teammates during their 22-point loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves (via Alan Horton and ClutchPoints).

Smart was spotted on the sidelines completely ripping his teammates, talking to them about how embarrassing their effort — or lack thereof — was.
This is one of the main reasons why the Grizzlies decided to trade for Smart in the first place.
He’s a hard-nosed veteran and someone who won’t hesitate to get into everybody’s face if need be.
Smart is the kind of player who leads by example and demands nothing but greatness from himself and his teammates, and he’s someone who’ll make sure that every single one of the players — Morant included — stays in line and keeps their focus on what’s actually important.
He perfectly embodies the “grit-and-grind” persona the Grizzlies have worked so hard to build over the past couple of decades, and he is the kind of player who’s going to say things as he sees them, regardless of how uncomfortable things can get.
The Grizzlies desperately need a turnaround and to have Morant back on the floor, but at least it seems like they’ve found a leader, and that also matters.
