For quite some time now, quarterback Lamar Jackson has been demanding a lucrative new contract from the Baltimore Ravens.

But both sides have been unable to come to an agreement, and it has resulted in the team affixing its non-exclusive franchise tag on him for the new NFL league year.

In the recent past, the team has publicly expressed confidence that Jackson would remain with them for years to come, but that confidence has declined over time, and now they don’t even want to talk about Jackson.

Some fans will likely take it as a sign that Jackson is all but gone at this point.

Per league rules, he can negotiate a contract with any team he wants, and should he come to terms with a team and the Ravens choose not to match that contract, they would receive two first-round draft picks as compensation.

The problem is there seems to be no interest in Jackson.

Part of it is because of his demands — he reportedly wants a fully-guaranteed deal like the one Deshaun Watson got from the Cleveland Browns last season, which will pay him a total of $230 million.

Then there is the matter of Jackson’s declining production.

He played spectacular ball in 2019 when he won the regular season MVP, but his passing stats have been in decline since.

Perhaps the lack of interest in Jackson league-wide will end up being a stroke of good fortune for the Ravens, as it may force Jackson to accept a lesser contract from him, but for now, he seems to have one foot out the door.
