The New York Yankees’ home opener on Friday was somewhat spoiled by the fact they lost to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Their vaunted offense was dominated from start to finish.
However, it was just the second loss of the season for New York, and they have been playing at a very high level.
Still, the loss didn’t erase some of the memories fans will be taking home with them.
The most notable one has to do with one of the new players for the 2024 campaign: Juan Soto.
The All-Star outfielder has had a fantastic start to the year, winning the AL Player of the Week honors after the opening weekend.
All those games were played on the road.
On Friday, Soto got the chance to experience what it’s like to play right field in Yankee Stadium while playing for the Yankees.
Fans welcomed him and loudly cheered for him.
“A hero’s welcome for Juan Soto as he takes right field at Yankee Stadium,” FOX Sports: MLB tweeted, with the thrilling video.

There was even a Dominican flag in right field, to make Soto feel at home.
After Friday’s game, Soto is still hitting .303/.395/.424 despite going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
He was clearly not happy with the umpire, probably because he wanted to give fans a home-opener victory.
It wasn’t meant to be, but he still figures to be the X-factor for the Yanks in 2024.
His ability to take walks, hit for contact, and power have the potential to take the team far.
