This season, the Sacramento Kings have surpassed the expectations of just about everyone, as they have not only made the NBA playoffs, but they have also captured the third seed in the Western Conference.

They will make their first postseason appearance since 2006, and it will be the first time they have had at least the third seed since 2003, back when they were championship contenders behind Chris Webber, Mike Bibby, and Peja Stojakovic.

The National Basketball Coaches Association named head coach Mike Brown their Coach of the Year as a result, and when his players honored him for winning the award, he thanked each of them.

Brown has greatly improved as a coach over the years, and he is also one of the warmest, most likable figures in the entire NBA, something that has no doubt helped him earn the buy-in of his players.

He started his head coaching career during the 2005-06 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, which gave him the opportunity to coach a young LeBron James, and in just his second season there, he guided them to the NBA Finals.

In the 2011-12 campaign, he took the helm of the Los Angeles Lakers, making him one of the rare people who have gotten to work up-close-and-personal with both James and Kobe Bryant.

Brown also spent six seasons as an assistant with the Golden State Warriors, where he earned three championship rings and added Stephen Curry to the list of all-time greats he has coached.

Ironically, his Kings will face those same Warriors when the playoffs start a few days from now.
