Ahead of Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night, the Boston Celtics got some concerning news regarding the status of veteran forward Kristaps Porzingis, as he had apparently suffered a rare kind of foot injury in the win over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 2 at TD Garden.

Although it didn’t seem to be serious initially, it was severe enough to keep the 28-year-old off the floor for Game 3, with the best-of-seven series shifting to the American Airlines Center for the next two games.

Ultimately, Porzingis was ruled out for Game 3, and his status has been up in the air ever since with regard to whether he’ll be able to play another game in the NBA Finals.

Even though there’s no telling whether Porzingis will play in Game 4 on Friday in Dallas, the veteran forward was seen practicing on the basketball floor on Thursday, which might be a promising sign moving forward, via Chris Forsberg of NBCS Boston.

Fortunately for the Celtics, Boston currently has a commanding 3-0 series lead over the Mavericks, a deficit that no team in NBA history has ever been able to come back from.

That said, the Celtics could rest Porzingis for Game 4, which would give him some more time to heal before the team hosts Game 5 back at TD Garden in Boston if necessary.

The Celtics are in a privileged position after winning Game 3 not to push the injury-prone forward to play as they are in the best position possible moving forward, even though they have to play one more game in Dallas before returning home.
