Friday’s preseason game between the San Francisco 49ers and Las Vegas Raiders saw the Raiders come back from an early 10-0 deficit to finish with a 24-24 tie, which was the first tie of the preseason.
While ties are lame, the ending was about as electric as you can ever ask for from a football game.
On the final play, quarterback Tanner Mordecai of the 49ers threw a hail mary that Trent Taylor caught at the 7-yard line before a series of successful laterals and fumbles eventually culminated with an offensive lineman streaking down the left sideline being unfortunately caught just a few yards from the end zone.

The refs threw a wet blanket on the whole thing by throwing a flag for an illegal forward pass on Mordecai for one of his laterals (which was clearly the correct call), but the play was still probably the most exciting play of the preseason.
The play showed a bunch of guys buried deep on the 49ers’ depth chart working tirelessly to steal a win and perhaps a roster spot, as this play was likely the last for many of them this year and was quite the way to put a bow on the preseason.
The Niners’ starters saw extended time while the Raiders elected to sit their starters.
Starting quarterback Brock Purdy was 9-for-12 for 96 yards and an interception while two of his top receivers, George Kittle and Deebo Samuel, both made some big plays early on and looked to be on the same page with their QB.
