The Minnesota Vikings underwent a lot of change this offseason as long-time quarterback Kirk Cousins signed with the Atlanta Falcons in free agency, while the team also brought in rival running back Aaron Jones from the Green Bay Packers and watched veteran edge rusher Danielle Hunter sign with the Houston Texans after nine years with the Vikes.

The big changes already look like they’ll be continuing next offseason as one of the team’s most iconic players is reportedly going to retire at the end of this upcoming season.

Charley Walters of The Pioneer Press reported there’s “no doubt the coming season will be the last” for star safety Harrison Smith, who is heading into his 13th season with the Vikings.

Per @Charley_Walters, there’s “no doubt the coming season will be” the last for #Vikings S Harrison Smith after 13 prolific seasons in Minnesota.

Smith is 35 years old and has been a pillar of health and excellence since being drafted with the 29th pick in the 2012 draft out of Notre Dame.

His 34 career interceptions are the second-most among active players behind Patrick Peterson’s 36.

Smith signed a restructured 2-year, $10.25 million contract that extends through next season, but the Vikings have an out that allows them to get out of the deal prior to the 2025 season should Smith decide he does want to continue playing.

This news is unsurprising, but still comes out of nowhere, especially since Smith just signed a two-year deal this offseason.

He has led this defense for over a decade and it’s hard to imagine this team taking the field on Sundays without him roaming around in the secondary.

Enjoy this season, Vikings fans, because unfortunately, Smith’s days appear to be numbered.
