The Minnesota Vikings have had a tough time with injuries over the past couple of months.
Unfortunately for them, that’s not likely to change any time soon.
According to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Vikings have decided to leave star tight end TJ Hockenson on the reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list for the start of the season.
Minnesota is leaving TE T.J. Hockenson on the Physically Unable to Perform List, which means he is ineligible to be active during the first four games of the season, per sources. That decision means Hockenson will be ineligible to be active during the first four games of the season.
This isn’t much of a surprise, though.
Hockenson suffered an ACL and MCL injury last season, so he was always a long shot to be ready for the start of the campaign.
He did partake in several intense workouts during the final stages of training camp, and he looked ahead of schedule.
Nevertheless, the team decided to err on the side of caution and protect their valuable veteran, who they signed to a four-year contract extension worth $68 million just a year ago.
He will be eligible to get on the field for a home matchup with the Detroit Lions, his former team.
Since arriving in the Twin Cities, he’s logged the most receptions (155) among tight ends in the league, also hauling in the second-most receiving yards (1,479).
