The Minnesota Vikings have a lot to consider heading into the 2023 NFL season.

Justin Jefferson has a looming contract extension, and Kirk Cousins is seemingly in the last year of his deal, amid many other factors.

Danielle Hunter’s future with the team hangs in the balance, another domino that’s set to fall.

Despite this uncertainty, Kevin O’Connell’s confidence hasn’t wavered.

In a recent conversation, per NFL.com, O’Connell believed the team would be able to retain Hunter, saying, “That is definitely one of the solutions that hopefully we can work towards.”

Hunter has been on the Vikings since 2015 and is a defensive force.

Last season, he had 65 total tackles and 10.5 sacks and looks to make a similar impact this year.

As is the case with many players, however, a contract has to make sense for the two involved parties.

While Hunter has been an impactful player on the defensive side of the ball for the Vikings, he is 28 years old.

This, paired with the fact that he has suffered from some injury issues, could be a cause of concern for the Vikings.

Whether the Vikings choose to retain him remains to be seen.

If they do cut ties with Hunter, they’d likely get younger at the position and hope they can find similar results with a different player.

2023 could be a prove-it year for the Vikings, considering Aaron Rodgers is now out of the division.

If they’re able to win the division this year, it could mean a lot for the future of players like Cousins and Hunter.
