Some positive things are coming out of Minnesota on rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
The No. 10 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft is the hopeful quarterback of the future in the Twin Cities and has shown great signs on the practice field and in the facility.
Vikings veteran tight end T.J. Hockenson recently joined Bussin’ With The Boys to chat about how McCarthy has done so far picking up the NFL game.
“He’s been incredible…He’s grinding in the classroom. He’s a baller on the field obviously…he’s earned the respect of a lot of guys in there,” Hockenson said of the rookie signal-caller.

If McCarthy ends up hitting on some of his potential, Minnesota might be able to surprise a lot of teams.
As it stands right now, veteran quarterback Sam Darnold might be the starter because of his nearly seven years of NFL experience.
But, the former Michigan man in McCarthy could push for the starter job up until the start of the season and possibly overtake Darnold midway through the season.
It will all depend on his connection with his veteran skill players.
Remember, in two years of starting at Michigan, McCarthy never threw for over 3,000 yards.
He also never threw for more than 22 touchdowns in either of his seasons as the starter.
What happens when head coach Kevin O’Connell needs him to throw the ball 40 times or get the ball to Justin Jefferson in big moments?
It’s that kind of stuff that will decide whether or not he is ready to be the starter.
