The beginning of the end for the Golden State Warriors dynasty might be here as Klay Thompson signed with the Dallas Mavericks earlier this summer.
Thompson and the Warriors couldn’t agree on a contract decision and thus the two sides decided to part ways.
While Golden State was able to rebound nicely shortly after, the team still feels short of a true star to pair with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
In a loaded Western Conference, the Warriors, as currently constructed, might find it difficult to compete.
Golden State has been proactive in looking for some more firepower and have been linked to Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen.
However, it appears that they are staying firm on their decision not to include Brandin Podziemski in any trade deals via Marc Stein.
“The Warriors, as of Sunday, continued to be regarded as the league’s most ardent Markkanen suitor … but at the same time still unwilling to surrender Brandin Podziemski in a trade package for the 7-foot Finn. Golden State, to date, has pursued Markkanen without including Podziemski or Jonathan Kuminga in trade packages laden with future draft compensation. Obviously no team, to this point, has met Danny Ainge’s asking price.”

Podziemski emerged as a key contributor in head coach Steve Kerr’s rotation during the 2023-24 NBA season and could help bridge the next era of the franchise.
However, if the team is serious about making at least one more run at a title with Curry then they need to go all-in and move pieces for players like Markkanen who can help now.
