The Golden State Warriors dynasty officially came to a close when Klay Thompson was traded to the Dallas Mavericks after he couldn’t agree on terms of an extension.

Throughout the 2023-24 NBA season, Thompson’s departure began to feel more likely as contract negotiations dragged on and he eventually chose to go to Dallas to chase after another ring.

Although the former All-Star regressed defensively, he was one of the best outside shooters in the league and remains a threat to score from distance.

In the aftermath of Thompson’s departure, the Warriors did well to bring in new faces like Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson and De’Anthony Melton to help fill the void.

General manager Mike Dunleavy did well to recover and he discussed how Golden State will look to adjust without Thompson on the roster via NBC Sports.

“It’ll be different, I think, once camp starts and we get going with practice,” Dunleavy said. “Especially for Draymond, and Steph and Steve, it’ll be a bit of a shock. But I think Klay’s in a great spot and we’ll move forward and I think everything’s gonna be alright.”

“As I said the other day, nothing lasts forever.”

Dunleavy added that he’s excited about the new additions and the young players on the team and believes that the Warriors could be an even better team compared to last year.

While it’s easy to remain optimistic right now, no one will know what Golden State will be able to accomplish until the regular season officially tips off in a couple of months.

For now, it’ll be interesting to see if Dunleavy’s belief in his roster holds up.
