After a regular season filled with some drastic ups and downs, the Golden State Warriors had a chance to turn things around as they headed into the Play-In Tournament to face the division-rival Sacramento Kings.

Unfortunately, the Warriors couldn’t keep up with the Kings this time around and were blown out on the road in Sacramento, leading to the storied franchise missing the NBA playoffs entirely.

As a result of the loss and a disappointing regular season, the Warriors brass will face a lot of tough questions during this NBA offseason, including what the future will hold for sharpshooting guard Klay Thompson.

Although Thompson played a pivotal role in the team’s four titles, he’s no longer the player he once was, which has led to speculation that he could leave the team this summer.

However, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. let it be known that the team wants Thompson back next year and will try to re-sign him in NBA free agency, via Warriors on NBCS.

“Certainly, we want Klay back,” Dunleavy said. “I expressed that to him yesterday.”

At this point in time, there’s no telling what will happen with Thompson this offseason, as last year Dunleavy insisted that Jordan Poole would be with the team and traded him shortly after in the deal that brought Chris Paul to Golden State.

That said, it is hard to believe anything Dunleavy says, especially with all the rumors floating around and teams like the Dallas Mavericks and Orlando Magic rumored to show interest in Thompson once he’s a free agent.
