The Golden State Warriors and Klay Thompson couldn’t reach an agreement.
They had more than a year to get a deal done, but it seemed like this was the most likely outcome for both parties.
It was a shame to see their partnership end this way, but that’s something that happens often in sports.
Of course, some thought the Warriors would’ve still done right by one of the greatest players in franchise history, but with a new front office, some bad performances, and the cruel nature of this business, that wasn’t the case.
So, with Thompson set to join Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks, the Warriors PR team released a statement noting some of Thompson’s incredible accomplishments with the organization and thanking him for his services.

Granted, Thompson isn’t the player he used to be, and chances are that he won’t get back to his former level.
He knows that, and late last season, he talked about embracing a lesser role on the team if that is what it took to stay there, so it may never have been about money.
Thompson has made plenty of money in his career, and he literally grew up being the son of a former NBA champion; he also has plenty of endorsement deals.
This was always about not feeling valued by the organization to which he had given everything.
His critics can try to twist history all they want, but the fact of the matter is that the Warriors didn’t even make the playoffs in the two years he was out, and they wouldn’t have won four rings without him.
