White Sox Reportedly Adding Veteran Amid Nightmare Start

As we head into Monday, the Chicago White Sox are the worst team in MLB with a 2-13 record.

No one can express shock or surprise after reading that line: Chicago has one of baseball’s worst rosters and some of their precious few good players have gotten injured.

The situation in the South Side is not good at all.

In the middle of their struggles, they are reportedly close to announcing the signing of a talented veteran.

“Tommy Pham is close to joining the White Sox on a minor league deal,” Talkin’ Baseball tweeted, relaying a report by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Pham is a steady veteran who can contribute a solid bat, power, and some speed to a mediocre lineup.

Of course, he will have to earn his place on the active roster, though: the deal is of the minor league variety.

It’s probably not about talent: Pham is already better than the vast majority of the White Sox’s available position players at the moment.

However, since he wasn’t around in spring training, he might need a few games in the minors to get himself in game shape.

Pham is a career .259/.351/.435 hitter with a .786 OPS.

He is 36 years old and played last year with the New York Mets and the Arizona Diamondbacks, reaching the World Series with the latter.

He could provide a spark to Chicago’s lineup and if he performs well, he is a candidate to be traded to a contender before the deadline.

That’s probably the White Sox’s angle here.
