The Cincinnati Reds have put together an incredible team while building from within.

With clever trades, player development, and a sound plan for the draft and the international free agent market, GM Nick Krall has put together a playoff contender.

This is a team that opened the 2022 season with a 3-22 record.

Yet here we are, a little over a year later, and they are just half a game behind the NL Central leader with a 55-46 record.

A big part of their success stems from their offense.

The lineup is deep and talented.

The starting rotation?

Not so much.

The perfect showing of this is that the Reds currently have Luke Weaver making starts every five days.

ESPN Stats & Info offered a very revealing bit of data regarding Weaver and the offense.

“Luke Weaver has a ERA of 8.79 in his last 10 starts, but the Reds have a team record of 9-1 in those games. That is the highest ERA in a 10-start span for a pitcher whose team won at least 9 games in that span since ERA became official in 1913,” they tweeted.

Do you know how many runs the lineup has to score to overcome a starter with an 8.79 ERA?

A lot of them.

Fortunately, the Reds have Matt McLain, Elly De La Cruz, Spencer Steer, Jake Fraley, Joey Votto, Tyler Stephenson, Jonathan India, Will Benson, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, TJ Friedl, and other talented hitters to make up for that.

If this team acquires a starter or two at the deadline, look out.
