After firing head coach Wes Unseld Jr. during the 2023-24 NBA regular season, the Washington Wizards decided to give Brian Keefe the interim tag for the rest of the year, with the team in no rush to find Unseld’s successor in the nation’s capital.
Although plenty of teams parted ways with their head coaches after the 2023-24 campaign was over for teams not in the NBA playoffs or eliminated in one of the early rounds, the Wizards’ search for a head coach did not get much attention, with most of the attention being directed at the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns.
Ultimately, the Suns chose to replace Frank Vogel with former Milwaukee Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer, who was arguably the biggest name on the open market, and the Lakers seem to be leaning toward JJ Redick being Darvin Ham’s successor in Los Angeles.
However, as the Wizards have flown under the radar with their search for a new leader on the sideline, the team has gone the simple route by making Keefe the official new head coach of the squad by removing the interim tag, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

With the Wizards not exactly having high expectations moving forward after trading the face of the franchise, Bradley Beal, to the Suns ahead of last season, Keefe might have some time to turn this team back into a winner in the Eastern Conference.
However, it won’t be easy with the team dealing with roster issues and potentially being on the verge of trading Kyle Kuzma this summer.
