The New York Yankees have been watching the postseason from home for the first time in a while.
This season was the first since 2016 that the Yankees failed to reach the playoffs.
Many of their issues have to do with roster construction.
The Yankees’ front office did not do a good job building a championship team.
Each season they are one of the highest-spending teams yet have nothing to show for it.
Not only has the front office made poor free-agent signings but they also made bad trades.
One player the Yankees decided to move on from who is still pitching in the playoffs is Jordan Montgomery.
New York traded him away in 2022 and that certainly looks like a mistake.
Talkin’ Yanks discussed how Montgomery dominating the Houston Astros in the ALCS is a terrible look for the Yankees.
New York gave him away thinking he could not help them in the 2022 playoffs.
That was a miscalculation by Yankees GM Brian Cashman.

The Yankees traded Montgomery to the Cardinals in 2022 and then the Cardinals moved him to the Rangers this year.
In 11 regular-season starts with Texas, Montgomery had a 2.79 ERA.
But his best start of the season came at the most meaningful moment.
In Game 1 of the ALCS, Montgomery shut down the Astros for 6.1 scoreless innings.
Similar to the Phillies in the NL, everything seems to be going right for the Rangers in the playoffs.
With the way things are trending, Montgomery will get a chance to face the Phillies in the World Series.
