The struggling New York Yankees are set to open up a three-game weekend series against their hated rivals in the Boston Red Sox.

The series will take place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

New York heads home after being swept by the Atlanta Braves and falling below the .500 mark.

The Yankees are in last place in the American League East division and are also slipping in the Wild Card standings.

There was a little bit of uncertainty surrounding who the Yankees’ starter for Friday night’s game against the Red Sox would be.

However, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News announced on Twitter that right-hander Jhony Brito would be drawing the start in the series opener.

The 25-year-old right-hander owns a record of 4-5 this year in 15 appearances.

He has made 12 starts and pitched a total of 62.1 innings, striking out 47 and posting a 1.28 WHIP.

Brito also has an ERA of 4.76.

New York’s starting rotation has taken multiple hits due to injuries this season.

Frankie Montas has yet to pitch and likely will not pitch this year.

Nestor Cortes and Carlos Rodon are also on the injured list, leaving Gerrit Cole to pick up much of the slack.

The Yankees will hope that Brito can give them some innings and give their struggling offense a chance to heat up and score some runs.

New York has lost five consecutive games dating back to last Saturday against the Miami Marlins.

Brito will look to stop the bleeding and get the Yankees back into the win column.
