The New York Yankees made a decision late on Sunday to fire their hitting coach, Dillon Lawson.

However, it did not take them long to find a replacement from outside the organization.

Former slugger Sean Casey, a three-time All-Star during his career and a current MLB Network analyst, has been announced as the team’s new hitting coach.

Casey hit for a career .302 batting average, hit 130 home runs, had an .814 OPS, and posted a WAR of 16.5.

He also drove in 735 runs and picked up a total of 1,531 career hits.

On Twitter, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic announced the news of the Yankees’ latest hire.

Casey was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the second round of the 1995 MLB Draft out of the University of Richmond.

He made his Major League debut with the Indians in 1997 before joining the Cincinnati Reds.

Casey spent the vast majority of his career in Cincinnati before making a brief stop with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2006.

He was shipped off to the Detroit Tigers at the trade deadline and helped guide the team to their first World Series since 1984.

The veteran slugger spent the 2007 season in Detroit before playing his final season with the Boston Red Sox in 2008.

His best season came in 1999 with the Reds when he hit for a career-high .332 average and crushed 25 home runs, which was also a career-high.

Now, Casey will bring his hitting expertise to the Bronx and serve as the Yankees’ new hitting coach after the dismissal of Lawson on Sunday.
