The New York Yankees will take the field on Thursday against the San Francisco Giants on Opening Day.
Everything is ready for the start of the season, a big one for the Yankees.
They want to return to the World Series for the first time since 2009, a long time that has fans worried.
The roster, as currently constructed, has enough talent and upside to compete.
The problem, as of now, are injuries.
The rotation in particular is down three of its five members.
First, it was revealed that Frankie Montas would need shoulder surgery and would miss most of the season.
Then, Carlos Rodon suffered a forearm injury, but he could return in late-April if all goes well.
The last one to fall was Luis Severino with a lat strain.
The rotation is full of question marks.
That has forced the Yanks to go to the market.
“Aaron Boone says the Yankees are currently talking to a free agent pitcher about a deal. Didn’t say who it was. Could be added before Friday’s game,” The Athletic’s Brendan Kuty tweeted.

There isn’t a lot of talent available in the free agency pool at this point, but the Yankees could be looking for a depth option just in case there is another injury.
There are some experienced names available, such as Mike Minor, Michael Pineda, and Chris Archer.
Perhaps the Yankees are talking to one of them, or maybe it’s another “mystery” player.
We will know soon enough, but it’s clear the Bombers need to add at least one additional starting pitcher.
