Spring training 2024 hasn’t been kind to New York Yankees prospect Oswald Peraza.

Once called by some the Yankees’ shortstop of the future, Peraza just hasn’t been able to consistently produce to win a spot in their infield.

Spring training represented a nice chance for him, but he has been playing injured.

For days, he has been trying to fend off a shoulder injury, but has been unable to do that.

It has affected his performance to the point that the team, who had initially said he wasn’t scheduled for any tests a little over a week ago, is now sending him for imaging.

“Oswald Peraza (shoulder) has been sent for imaging as he continues to experience discomfort throwing,” Yankees insider Bryan Hoch tweeted.

The infielder has been experiencing symptoms since last week.

He has only played three games, the most recent of them being on Wednesday; and still has no hits.

He has also struck out in four of his eight plate appearances, so yes, something appears to be wrong with him.

With both Peraza and Oswaldo Cabrera struggling to get anything going in spring training, the Yankees’ utilityman situation is looking bleak.

They were interested in bringing in Kiké Hernandez before he signed with the Dodgers, and might be on the lookout for another body should Peraza’s imaging show something.

Peraza, being a homegrown Yankee with an outstanding glove, versatility, speed, and some power, was theoretically a perfect choice.

However, he won’t be able to perform if he is hurt.
