The New York Yankees just can’t catch a break.
Not only are they mediocre and inconsistent, but the problems with injuries don’t seem to go away.
Carlos Rodon, a pitcher they paid $162 million for the next six years to lure to the Bronx in the offseason, had his 2023 debut delayed due to forearm and back issues.
When he finally returned, he understandably showed some rust, still to this day.
To make matters worse, he tweaked his left hamstring on Sunday against the Houston Astros.
The hurler had expressed confidence he wouldn’t need a stint on the injured list.
However, the team obviously disagreed with that stance and placed him on the 15-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.
Reliever Nick Ramirez was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move on Monday.
Greg Joyce of the New York Post offered the latest update on the southpaw’s health, via Talkin’ Yanks on Twitter.
“Carlos Rodon will keep throwing on flat ground while he’s on the IL in order to hopefully keep his stint the minimum,” they wrote.

The Yankees know how long it took for Rodon to build arm strength upon returning from his back problems.
They sure don’t want to start all over: they don’t have the time.
Since the hamstring strain is of the mild variety, he is allowed to keep throwing from flat ground for a few days until he feels good enough to advance to mound work.
There is a chance Rodon’s IL stint lasts the minimum or close to it.
The 2023 campaign has been rough for Rodon, who has a 7.33 ERA in six starts and more injuries than wins (one).
There is still some time to turn things around, though.
