Inside-the-park home runs are quite rare.
Back in previous eras, they weren’t quite so uncommon, depending on the dimensions of the ballparks they were hit in.
But in the modern era, it’s rare to see a player accomplish this feat.
However, it’s not impossible.
On Tuesday, Miami Marlins slugger Yuli Gurriel proved as much when he hit a deep fly ball out to left field that was just out of the reach of Atlanta Braves outfielder Kevin Pillar.
Pillar crashed into the wall and almost pulled the ball down, but it ricocheted off his glove and trickled away, allowing Gurriel time to round the bases and achieve this impressive and improbable feat.
The Marlins posted a video of the highlight on Twitter.

Inside-the-park home runs may be rare, but that is why they’re so exciting and fun to watch.
It’s a chance for a player to show off his speed and see if he can find a way to come all the way around after making contact.
The ball was almost caught by Pillar.
However, it went in and out as he crashed into the left field wall.
The veteran outfielder was slow to get up after hitting the wall so hard, and it allowed Gurriel a little extra time to get around the bases.
The home run made it a 7-4 game in the top of the ninth.
However, the Braves held on to win by that same score.
The home run was Gurriel’s second of the year, and he did it in an unforeseen way.
