Thursday was like a punch to the gut of the Cincinnati Bengals, as they not only lost a marquee matchup to the Baltimore Ravens but also lost star quarterback Joe Burrow for the season.

He reportedly tore a ligament in his right wrist during the game, and it has called into question a deleted tweet that showed him with some sort of a sleeve or covering on that same wrist prior to the contest.

But head coach Zac Taylor said that sleeve or covering was “completely unrelated” to the injury Burrow ultimately suffered, per Mike Garafolo.

Zac Taylor says the wrist wrap Joe Burrow was wearing on the #Bengals‘ plane was “completely unrelated” to this season-ending injury.

Burrow has been hit hard by injuries throughout the season — he suffered a strained calf early in training camp, and he got off to a very poor start during the first few weeks of the schedule.

More recently, the Bengals went on a four-game winning streak with Burrow starting to look like his usual self again, and the thinking was that they were starting to round into shape for a possible run at the Super Bowl.

Instead, with a 5-5 record, it looks likely they will end up missing the playoffs.

Barring a personnel move, Jake Browning will take over as the starter under center, and he did a decent job against the Ravens after Burrow went down, completing 8 of 14 passes for 68 yards and a touchdown pass while also rushing for 40 yards on four attempts.
