The Cincinnati Bengals have a tense situation brewing with superstar wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who wants a lucrative long-term contract extension but has yet to put pen to paper with the start of the 2024 NFL season rapidly approaching.

As if the situation in Cincinnati wasn’t troubling enough, with both sides struggling to see eye-to-eye on a new deal, the Dallas Cowboys recently signed superstar wideout CeeDee Lamb to a long-term extension, which shifts more attention to the Bengals.

Regarding Chase’s situation, things may have gotten a little worse for the Bengals, as he isn’t practicing, even though head coach Zac Taylor recently said he would do so during the negotiations.

It has put Taylor in an awkward situation where he had to backtrack his comments and take a new approach when talking about his star moving forward.

“I probably put my foot in my mouth speaking too quickly,” Taylor said, via Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

With Chase being just as important to his team as Lamb is to the Cowboys, the Bengals will likely try to get a deal done sooner rather than later to avoid any further distraction heading into Week 1, when they host the New England Patriots on Sept. 8.

Only time will tell how this situation in Cincinnati unfolds, but it would be safe to say that if it isn’t resolved soon, it could prove costly during the 2024 campaign.
