The Washington Commanders are in the midst of a rebuild, but there’s optimism that the team has its franchise quarterback in Jayden Daniels.
Washington selected Daniels No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft and it was lauded as a great pick because the LSU product represents arguably the most upside from the class.
Daniels’ stock skyrocketed after his season with the Tigers and he eventually went on to win the Heisman Trophy.
Now, Daniels walks onto a Washington team that has been desperately looking for its long-term solution at the position after cycling through several options over the past few years.
With Daniels, the Commanders have a player that can do just about anything on the field and is already impressing teammates both on and off the field.
Veteran tight end Zach Ertz had high praise for Daniels as he compared him to his Stanford teammate Andrew Luck who he still considers to be the best quarterback he’s ever played with via Ryan Clark’s personal Twitter account.
“Zach Ertz still says that Andrew Luck is the best QB he’s ever played with, but he believes that rookie Jayden Daniels has a lot of the intangible characteristics that made Luck special,” Clark tweeted.

Obviously, the talent is there. The Heisman Trophy winner can make all the throws, & at top… pic.twitter.com/Zj7P8ZbYMe

Ertz and Luck were a handful as a quarterback-tight end pairing, though it sounds like the former sees a lot of his college teammate in Daniels.
Ertz explains in the video how Daniels has a natural way of pulling guys toward him, a trait he observed in Luck during their time together.
Any time someone gets compared to Luck is high praise and it sounds like Ertz believes in Daniels’ potential.
