It could very well be a make-or-break season for superstar forward Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans, with the 23-year-old coming off a forgettable 2022-23 NBA season marred by injuries and a strange offseason filled with off-the-floor issues that became public.
Even though Williamson is arguably one of the most talented players in the league when healthy, the simple fact is he hasn’t been able to stay healthy enough to help his team reach its true potential.
Along with being unable to stay healthy, Williamson’s weight has gone up and down over the years, leading many to believe that’s part of the problem.
Apparently, Williamson’s teammates have had enough of his lack of effort and called him out.
Williamson recently spoke to the media and admitted his teammates gave him a bit of a wake-up call and that the message was received, as he is motivated moving forward, via Pro Pels Talk.
“My teammates called me up, they felt like I wasn’t going as hard, so i told them I would be there for them. I wanted to come out and set the tone.”

The real question now is whether Williamson can stay healthy and, while he’s healthy, if he has indeed taken his teammates’ words to heart and plans to have a breakout season as a result.
Only time will tell what the future holds for Williamson and the Pelicans, but New Orleans will definitely be must-see TV for all NBA fans, as this team could surprise a lot of people throughout the 2023-24 campaign.
The team’s success will lean heavily on Williamson and Brandon Ingram and their ability to stay healthy over the course of the upcoming 82-game season.
If things don’t work out early, the team could be very active at the NBA trade deadline in February.
