The Philadelphia 76ers need all hands on deck for Friday night’s matchup vs. the Boston Celtics.
Joe Mazzulla’s team has had their number for years now, and not having their best player on the court could end up dooming them.
That’s why the fans won’t like Tim Bontemps’ report about Joel Embiid missing the team’s shootaround with an illness.
Joel Embiid was not at Sixers shootaround this morning, and is questionable for tonight’s game against Boston with an illness. Embiid missed Wednesday’s loss in New Orleans with the same issue.

Notably, Embiid had already missed their game vs. the New Orleans Pelicans with the same ailment, so it seems like he’s at risk of missing another matchup.
Al Horford has shut down Embiid like no other player in NBA history, so playing through an illness against his nemesis might not be at the top of his priority list.
A couple of years ago, Embiid admitted that the Sixers didn’t have a rivalry with the Celtics because a rivalry implies both teams win, and they just can’t seem to beat them.
They’ve split their season series 1-1 thus far, which is encouraging thinking about a potential rematch in the postseason.
That’s also why Nick Nurse would much rather have the reigning MVP on the floor tonight, so he can experiment and make some tweaks and adjustments to try and figure the code as to how to beat this team.
For now, however, it seems like he’s going to have to wait until they meet again to do so.
Embiid has a long history of injuries and ailments, and the Sixers have always protected him and been overly cautious with him every time he pops up in the injury report.
