Opening Day is almost here.

On Thursday, teams will be matching up for the first time in regular season play and will battle with each other to determine who the best is.

For the St. Louis Cardinals, Opening Day will be Thursday as they play host to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Miles Mikolas will draw the Opening Day start with Adam Wainwright on the shelf thanks to a groin injury.

Starting pitching is the biggest question mark for the Cards as they enter the 2023 season.

On Twitter, a fan commented on how important starting pitching is and how it still is an area the team could stand to address.

I think we can “survive” in the regular season with the way our rotation is now. We’ll be fine. Just gotta stay healthy.

The postseason is a whole different story though. You want that top end starter to put fear and gain that edge on other teams. #STLCards

The Cardinals rotation currently features Mikolas, Jack Flaherty, Jordan Montgomery, Steven Matz, and Jake Woodford.

When Wainwright returns, the rotation will grow stronger.

Still, they lack a true No. 1 starter.

As things stand now, the Cardinals have enough depth to get through the season.

But as this fan points out, the team is still in need of a true top-of-the-rotation arm that can help carry them through the postseason should they reach it for the fifth-straight year.

While Justin Verlander, Jacob deGrom, and Carlos Rodon were out of their preferred price range, cheaper options such as Nathan Eovaldi, Taijuan Walker, Jameson Taillon, and former Cardinal Michael Wacha were available.

The team’s rotation is currently their biggest weakness and one that will likely need to be addressed at the trade deadline.

A true No. 1 starter would give them a better chance to advance beyond the Wild Card round.
