When baseball season returns, everybody is looking forward to seeing some big home runs hit and some clutch moments taking place.

But clutch doesn’t always just mean a big hit.

It can apply to defense as well.

For the Chicago White Sox, outfielder Luis Robert made a clutch play out in center field.

The South Siders opened the 2023 season on the road against the defending World Series champion Houston Astros.

In the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday, Kyle Tucker drove one out to center field.

However, before it could get down, Robert made an unbelievable sliding grab at the warning track to rob the slugger of an extra-base hit.

The White Sox ultimately won the game by a final of 6-3 and managed to split the four-game series against the Astros at two games apiece.

But things could have gotten a little bit more interesting had Robert not made this sliding grab for the second out.

Chicago led by a score of 6-1 at the time, and had the ball gotten down, it may have resulted in two runs scoring for the Astros and could ultimately have led to the defending World champions coming back to within striking distance.

Fortunately for the White Sox, the grab quelled any chance of Houston making a significant comeback.

Robert also had a good game at the plate, picking up two hits, including a home run.

Yoan Moncada helped Robert out with a three-hit game that included a home run as well.

But it was Robert’s sliding catch that grabbed the headlines on Sunday.
