Just two seasons ago, it seemed like the New England Patriots had found Tom Brady’s heir.
Mac Jones looked like their guy for the future; he was poised and in control, and his teammates raved about his work ethic.
Then, the Alabama product vastly regressed in his sophomore season, and while a lot of that had to do with poor offensive play-calling and a subpar supporting cast, he failed to show any signs of improvement, and his temper tantrums didn’t do a lot to help his case.
So, shortly after Bill Belichick was non-committal about him starting over Bailey Zappe next season, speculation around the league grew about the Patriots potentially looking to make a run at Lamar Jackson.
Now, it’s been reported that the Patriots have been shopping Jones around, according to Mike Florio via Dov Kleiman.

Needless to say, that prompted plenty of takes on social media.
I trust Coach Belichick will do what’s best for the team.

Remember when Mac Jones made the NFL Top 100 and Patriots fans thought he was the second coming of Christ?

Per the report, the Pats offered the former first-round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders, Washington Commanders, and Houston Texans.
Notably, the Commanders are the only team that could consider bringing him in, as the Texans are ready to roll with Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud, and the Raiders just signed Jimmy Garoppolo.
Whatever the case, a Jones departure would leave the door wide open for the Patriots to make a splash with Lamar Jackson.
Belichick knows Robert Kraft’s patience is running out, so he might not have enough time to develop a QB that might never turn out to be as good as advertised.
