Normally, NFL players set goals that have to do with their production on the field, their team’s success, or even earning that huge contract that will set themselves and their families up for perpetual financial security.

But plenty of players also do wonderful work off the field to enrich the lives of other people.

Inside linebacker Eric Kendricks, who was recently signed by the Los Angeles Chargers, is one of those men, and his goal is to continue his work off the field.

Kendricks should help improve a Chargers defense that struggled for much of last season and finished 20th in total yards allowed and 21st in points scored.

Last season, he had 137 total tackles (87 solo), eight tackles for loss, and six passes defended, and he made both the Pro Bowl and All-Pro first-team during the 2019 campaign.

He will join Joey Bosa, who spent much of 2022 injured, and Pro Bowler Khalil Mack to give Los Angeles a nice and productive group of starting linebackers that includes the emerging Kenneth Murray Jr.

Simply having Bosa, who has made the Pro Bowl in four of the five seasons he has been healthy, avoid injury will greatly boost the team’s defense.

Of course, they will only go as far as star quarterback Justin Herbert takes them.

The Chargers could use a speed threat at wide receiver in order to capitalize on Herbert’s seemingly bionic throwing arm, and the best way for them to find one will be in the upcoming draft later this month.
